Justine Martineau: “Because it is a way to achieve personal growth.”
Between homework, exams, friends, and family, it may seem unimaginable for a 17 year old teenager to find time to volunteer. But for a cause that is close to her heart, Justine Martineau manages to do just that and in a remarkable way.
A secondary 5 student at the Pensionnat du Saint-Nom-de-Marie, Justine Martineau has been volunteering for the ALS Society for one year. While studying in the International Program, Justine brilliantly orchestrated a fundraising dinner as part of her personal project. The event included dancers, singers, and musicians, as well as a silent auction, which raised more than $7,600 for research and support for families touched by ALS. Justine dedicated the evening to Claire, her grandmother, who has been living with ALS for three years, “She has been my inspiration throughout this project and she has motivated me to take it as far as possible.”
“It allowed me to get out of my comfort zone, to discover various aspects of my personality, and to see what I could accomplish for a cause that was really dear to my heart.”
In addition to this significant contribution to the cause, Justine’s involvement gave her a chance to know herself better. “It allowed me to get out of my comfort zone, to discover various aspects of my personality, and to see what I could accomplish for a cause that was really dear to my heart.” With the wisdom of her 17 years, the teenager considers volunteering to be a way to contribute to the well-being of your community, but also to achieve personal growth. Not only does she volunteer for the ALS Society, but she also gives her time to organizations such as the Red Cross, the Blue House, and the Centre de la nature du Mont St-Hilaire.
Justine proves that you can contribute to a cause at any age and that any and all support allows various organizations to fulfill their missions. Justine’s love and curiosity for health and science will most likely shape her future in a way that will amaze us, just as her community involvement has done.
