Paula Stock- It’s the time to join forces

Two years ago, my husband, Dean, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), shocking news that devastated our family and turned our entire community upside down.

High school sweethearts, Dean and I had counted on having our whole life ahead of us, a life that we would live to the fullest with our children. It broke my heart to watch as the disease gradually robbed my husband of his voice, his mobility, and finally, in September, his life. He was only 39 years old.

This ordeal has made the children and I stronger and more united than ever, as we continue to be inspired by Dean’s love and guided by his wishes. Of course, we still cry sometimes, but my husband gave us the strength we need to carry on and, most of all, to cherish the life that awaits us.

From the moment Dean was diagnosed, we wanted to get out there and start raising as much awareness as possible for ALS, not to mention money. That’s how Team Stock came to be. It didn’t take long before hundreds of people had rallied behind our cause—proof that there truly is strength in numbers and that togetherness inspires hope.

I know from personal experience the emotional, financial and physical toll that ALS can take on the whole family. The specialized equipment, financial aid and personalized support that the Society provides are invaluable in coping with this disease, which is why the children and I continue to work hard for the cause and why we’re asking you today for your support.

By joining forces, we will win the fight against this devastating disease. In Dean’s memory and for everyone who is touched by ALS, I am appealing to you: Make a donation today and ALS Quebec will match the amount!

With Christmas only days away, the children and I miss Dean more than ever, but his final gift to us—the enduring love that we have for each other—brings us no end of comfort and joy.

My sincere hope is that we can join forces to find a cure for ALS and to provide support to the families who so desperately need it.

Thank you very much for your support and happy holidays!
