I have always been a sportsman, but I had never touched a road bike before the first Ride for ALS
Hello, my name is Philippe Michaud and I will be taking part in the Ride for ALS fundraiser for the third consecutive year. My father, Robert Michaud, was diagnosed with this terrible disease in September 2010. After a brave and long battle, he died in February 2013. At first, we were devasted by the diagnostic but then we were very inspired with his moral strength and his incredible desire to live. We were looking for ways to get involved to raise funds and awareness for ALS and in 2010, we formed a team called Les Pédaleux à Bob Michaud. We had 9 cyclists that year and this year we will be 13. The experience has been incredible! The feeling is intense, impossible to describe, you really have to be part of it to understand it.
I have always been a sportsman, but I had never touched a road bike before the first Ride for ALS in 2010. I certainly don’t bike 1,000 km every year…but for the weekend of the Ride for ALS, it is an honour to bike with all the participants. I’ve even invested on a bike this year. The days of the old blue Peugeot are over!
This year will be very special for me, as it will be the first year that my father will not greet me at the finishing line with his warm communicative smile and his thumb up as a sign of congratulation with eyes filled with tears because he was so proud of his team, his great Pédaleux! So, it will be an emotional Ride for ALS this year but I am convinced that my father’s energy will motivate and inspire us through the difficult hills. Now, if you see a bunch of happy singing cyclists, be sure it will be our team, the great Pédaleux à Bob Michaud!
Looking forward to seeing you all in the beautiful Mauricie Region next September!
