The diagnosis of ALS, like a train that has to change tracks suddenly, imposes a change of direction on one’s own life and those of one’s loved ones. Unlike retirement, where it is possible to plan and choose the direction of one’s new life outside of work, ALS is an imposed occupational transition. How can we make sense of this imposed occupational transition, which disrupts our occupational identity, the roles we have assumed, and the skills we have acquired? This conference proposes concrete solutions through the search for and initiation of meaningful occupations, the preferred lever for change in occupational therapy.
Conference is in French with bilingual slides. Questions and comments in English are welcome.
